Place to visit in Sri Lanka - Meemure: April 2012

Meemure is an ancient Sri Lankan Village which is located in Kandy District. The village surrounded by Knuckles mountain range. Meemure has been identified as one of the most traditional villages in Sri Lanka. According to the recent researches the total population of meemure is about 500.

Sri Lankan government has taken necessary steps to protect this traditional village. But living conditions of people is very poor. Solar power has been introduced as an alternative power source but there are no cellular facilities. Some CDMA phones are working in certain places.

It is advisable to drive a 4 x 4 vehicle if you are willing to visit Meemure. There are two – three places to stay in Meemure with basic facilities. The distance from Colombo to Meemure is 175 km. Hunnasgiriya is one of closet cities to Meemure. From Hunnasgiriya to Meemure it is about 32 km. It will take two hours from Hunnasgiritya to Meemure since the road condition is not good.

From Hunnasgiriya to Meemure there are many natural types of scenery. Mini Worlds End, Coberts Gap and waterfalls can be highlighted. Heen Ganga is a beautiful place and there is a natural water pool.
